Which Jane Austen heroine are you?
created with QuizFarm.com

Everyone who knows me knows that I love Jane Austen. I have read the majority of her books and watch all the movies and BBC mini series that are based on her novels.

Marianne is from Sense and Sensability, which happens to be one of the J.A. movies I own. I have always related to her character a bit; she is very impulsive, emotional, etc. I find it fitting that she is the character this quiz has determined I am most alike. Go here and take your own Jane Austen quiz, then tell me which character you are most like!

My babies are growing up!

Today was Riley's first day of first grade! He was really excited and nervous, scared and anxious. He was happy that he had a good friend in his class but sad that his best buddy Lucas was not in his class. Here are some pictures from today:

Looking pretty nervous! Searching for a familiar face

Best Buds

The Gang

He looks ready to learn! Riley's teacher and classroom (he sits up front!)

Bella also did some growing up this weekend. She is out of her crib! We got her a "big girl bed" (a toddler bed). The first few nights were rough. She didn't want to stay in it. But once she was asleep, she did great all night and would come walking down the hallway to our room in the morning when she woke up. She always asks for Ryan or me to sleep with her, she likes her cuddles!

This is pretty cozy, huh Bella?!
Getting comfy

Hey, I like this bed Mommy!!

Goodnight Bella! Sleep tight!

Wear Purple for Peace

Have you ever wondered what bizarre national holiday falls on your birthday??
Check out this website and find out.
Mine is National Wear Purple for Peace Day. Who knew purple was a peaceful color. I would have chosen a soft pink or a sea green for peace myself...

Boredom on a Saturday night

I was bored last night. Kids were asleep and Ryan was at work. Don't have cable, so watching TV is out, didn't have any books or magazines to read. Had spent the whole day at work playing online so I didn't want to do that either. So, here is what I did:

This is the kit I won by naming it. I love this photo of Bella and have wanted to scrap it for awhile, I just needed the right kit.

On a happy note, 6 more days of work before we leave for Italy. WOOO HOOO!

Home sick

Since I am home sick today and didn't have anything to do, I followed Jill's lead and made a Meez. So, blog readers, meet my Meez. Meez, meet my blog readers.

A cool thing happened and I feel like crap

And no, the two are not related!

My favorite scrapbook kit designer, Krista (you can see a link to her blog which showcases her kits on the right under Most Beautiful Kits Around), had a contest to see who could name her newest kit. Over 100 people entered, most submitted 5-10 names. And guess what?? She chose one of my names!! I was soo excited because there were so many good entries. The prize for having the name chosen is to receive the kit for free. And I love the kit so it was a very cool thing that happened to me! Here is a direct link to the kit: http://heyitsjustme-krista.blogspot.com/
I already know what kind of layout I am going to do with it and will post it here when I am done.

Starting Thursday night, I felt like I was coming down with something. It begin with achiness and a little bit of a sore throat. Now it is a full blown summer cold, complete with a stuffy nose, body aches, headache, sore throat, swollen glands and I think I will end up losing my voice pretty soon. Emergen C to the rescue!! In the meantime, I feel like crap!

The lame party is that Bella is sick too! She lost her voice today, poor thing! I couldn't find any Airborne Jr at Target tonight so I am off to search WalMart tomorrow. Hopefully we will both be feeling better in a few days and Ryan and Riley don't get it too!

Here are the two fair pages I finished tonight. Let me know what you think of them!!

It was 1980 something

During a recent daily search of digital scrapbook freebies, I came upon this kit.

I must admit, I LOVE IT!! I was obsessed with the smurfs (or les schtroumfs en francais) and used to plop myself infront of the tv every Saturday to watch their cartoon. I also have vivid memories of going to the "drug" store in Ketchum and oggling the Smurfs display. I would beg my parents to let me buy one. I wonder what ever happened to all my smurfs? I must have had at least 50 of them.

So, while we are reminising about our childhoods, I have to mention how excited I am that all the toys I played with as a kid are now back in stores for my own kids to play with! Rainbow Brite, Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake, even Pound Puppies (remember them?). Bella has been introduced to Care Bears and as soon as she gets a little older I will buy her some Strawberry Shortcake dolls too. I love that we get to share those things. The only things I can share with Riley are Legos, which he likes, but only to make dirtbike tracks with. But the one thing I have not seen are Smurfs! So, I say, let's bring back Smurfs!!! Come on, who' s with me??

2 more

After a Saturday full of cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning and spending yesterday in the ER with Riley and Bella (both are fine), it was a relief to get onto the computer last night to work on some pages!

Well, actually, I did the 4th of July page last week. 15 Minutes is the page I did last night. I woke Ryan up to show it to him and he said, "Wow sweetie, you are getting really good at this." Don't know how true that is as I think he was still asleep, but will take the compliment anyway.

Typical Day in the Life

Thursday:
3:00 am= awaken to sound of son calling my name. Check on him and discover he is burning up and crying because his head hurts so much. Stumble into bathroom to retrieve Tylenol and wet washcloth. After giving son Tylenol and putting cold wet washcloth on his forehead, sit at side of his bed, dozing off frequently, for 45 minutes to make sure Tylenol is working.

4:00 am= son feels cooler and is sleeping, go back to own bed.

5:30 am= alarm goes off. Say yeah right and hit the snooze.

7:00 am= wake up and say, "oh crap." Check on son. He is burning up again. Give him more Tylenol and another cool washcloth. Hear that daughter is now awake in her room and calling for me. Call for husband to wake up so I can get ready for work.

8:30-4:45 pm= tediously long and boring day at work broken up only by frequent calls to check status of son, good pizza and a quick walk.

4:45 pm= leave work, call mother to check on son. Mother states son is still burning up and complaining of severe headache despite Tylenol all day. Mother mentions menengitis.

4:48 pm= FREAK OUT over mention of menengitis. Immediately hang up with mother and call pediatrician's office. Speak to nurse who also sounds very concerned over son's symptoms. She asks if he has eaten today. Do not know, tell her I will call her right back. Make frantic call to husband at work, no answer. Call mother to ask her about son's daily food intake. She states no lunch. Call pediatrician back. No answer. Curse loudly!

5:30 pm= finally get to mother's house to pick up son after first picking up daughter then driving through Mickey D's to get dinner. Son is feeling and looking horrible. Take daughter to a friend's and take son to Dr.

7:00 pm= leave Dr. Son is fine, Dr thinks it is a virus but says we need to watch him very closely just in case and bring him back tomorrow for a re check. Go to WalMart to buy more Tylenol and Motrin for son. Pick up daughter at friend's house and head home.

8:00 pm= stop to get mail and almost hit a dog. Get out of the car and dog runs up for a pet. Has no name tag on. No one around to claim dog. Can't let dog run around and possibly get hit again. Put dog in car. Go home.

8:05 pm= dog seems to be okay in house, is not trying to attack our dog or cats. It is now over half hour past daughter's bedtime and almost son's bedtime. Still, must find owner for dog as I have too many pets already.

8:10 pm= get daughter's shoes on and get leash for dog and head out to go house to house to look for owner of dog. Daughter and son both walking very slow.

8:13 pm= find owner of dog. Not sure if he really was owner of dog or just lying to get dog. Doesn't really matter as at least dog is now safe inside of a house instead of running around on the street dodging traffic.

8:20 pm= finish reading daughter a story and getting her jammies on. Lay her in her bed. Sing the required Rockabye Baby 5 times before exiting room to cries for more, "rockababy"

8:21 pm= give son does of Motrin and Tylenol. Read him story and tuck him in. Give son some Gatorade. Make son go potty again. Give son required back massage and cuddle.

8:45 pm= collapse onto bed. Flip through People magazine until kids are asleep.

9:00 pm= check on son, still very hot. Decide to wait until 10 for medicine to work. Go downstairs to clean up, take out trash, pick up house.

9:30pm= son is cooler now. IM friend on computer while browsing digital scrapbooking websites.

10:00= husband calls is on his way home.

10:30= wake son up to go potty. Still hot. Take temp with two different thermometers. Son wants to sleep in my bed. Husband comes home. All lay down to go to sleep.

11:00= drift off to lala land.

5:30 am= alarm goes off. Hit snooze button.

I try to always keep my promises!

I promised I would show you my digital progress. And blogging gives me a reprive from downloading digital kits (did I mention I'm addicted?).

Here they are. I did Riley's page first and then Bella's. You can probably tell I am a fan of the simple scrapbook layouts. I don't like clutter. But then, that goes for everything in my life.

I actually spent money on the kit for the beach layouts but that is only because I am going to use them to make some pages for a friend too. Another great thing about digital scrapbooking; you buy a kit and can use it forever, over and over again!!

Here are the two pages I made for Bella's birthday. What do you think??

Digital Scrapaholics Unite!

Hello, my name is Kate and I am a digital scrapaholic!!

I was working on our 4th of July page last night when Ryan laughed and said, "Kate, put down the needle!". I haven't been an addict very long. It only started about 2 weeks ago but man has it taken over my life since then!!

I did a free tutorial online to learn the basics. I had seen other digital scrapbook pages and loved it but had no clue where to start. I was amazed at how simple it was!! Granted, I don't know the detailed stuff yet but so far so good!

There are a few things I love about digital scrapbooking; I don't have my scrapbook stuff cluttering up the house where the kids can get into it and I eventually end up losing half of it. Now, it is all neatly and discreetly contained on the computer (and I don't even have to move it to dust!!). I also love that I can be just as creative digitally as I can be with traditional scrapbooking and I am not spending tons of time and money printing out the pictures to use. Probably the best thing about it though (especially in Ryan's eyes) is that so far I have been able to do it all for FREE! There are sooo many free digital kits and downloads on the web that you really don't have to pay for a thing!!!

So, this is my first layout:

You can see that I didn't really know what I was doing and pretty much just stuck things on the page.

Here is my second attempt:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Okay, so this is a little better but I still did just the basics and hadn't yet learned about shadowing to make it look more 3 dimensional.

You'll just have to wait until tomorrow to see my progress!!!
